Participants are invited to attend one of two professional development sessions. Each session will be capped at 12 participants on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Session #1: Operationalizing Our Toolkits
Session Leaders: Eric Miller and Andreas Link
Session Expert Support: Mathis Wackernagle (online) and Peter Victor

In this session students will learn about the Ecological Footprint as an indicator for EE and how to communicate such tools to governmental bodies. Students will operationalize lessons learned by beginning to draft a white paper on ecological economics. This white paper will be posted on the CANSEE website and be available for use for anyone in Canada looking to make an EE argument at a particular governmental level.

Session #2: Social Complexity and Ideology Research (session subject to slight change)
Session Leaders: Katie Kish and Chris Orr
Session Expert Support: Josh Farley (online) and Steven Mock

In this session students will explore the emerging discourses in ecological economics. After identifying some of the major debates and problems in EE students will learn about two methods for approaching EE research including 1) a framework based in systems thinking, historical sociology, and political economy and 2) cognitive-affective mapping – a tool for mapping and uncovering ideology. Students are encouraged to use lessons learned on their own research.
